It's on Long Island in Port Jefferson, which is about an hour or so from where you live. They evaluation is expensive and not covered by insurance (although your insurance company MAY allow you to submit the bill and get some reimbursement -- it depends on your company) but this is a premiere autism center and within a reasonable distance for you for the couple of times you'll have to go there.

there, and all you need is a referral from your regular ped. Autism
"specialists" can come in many different stripes-MD's, neurologosts,
psychaiatrists---so ask around for the "GO-TO" person in your area. In my
experience though, a good developmental ped will spend much more one on
one time evaluating your child. Just my experience, though.
Your ped can also refer you to an Occupational Therapy clinic for a sensory
integration eval. Good luck!We got a full 3 hour thorough eval. through developmental pediatrician:) For sensory issues you need a OT that knows about kids and autism. I live in Texas so dont have no sights for you but wish you luck:)

I just came back from my son's psychiatrist. I had been reading about sensory intergration disorder and asked if she could evaluate him for this. She was honest enough to admit that that area was not her expertise and that she believed Ethan was more on the Spectrum. Again, she did not give him a formal diagnosis but based on her work with him she definitly believes he is on the Spectrum. Needless to say, I immediately wanted to know where I could get him a formal evaluation. She gave me the name of a place on Staten Island. However, I want to get as many sites that I can.

I want to have a formal evaluation for pdd but I want to go to a place that is well educated about Autism. We live in Queens but I am more than willing to go to any of the five boroughs of NYC to get him the right help. Can anyone recommend any evaluation sites?
